2nd Friday Art Night at Roberts Library (August 2022)

OPENING EXHIBITIONS

Steven Wise: O…Is for Ozarks

Friday, August 12–Saturday, October 29, 2022
Loft Gallery, CALS Galleries & Bookstore at Library Square

O…Is for Ozarks is made up of large pictures inspired by artist Steven Wise’s study of the Ozark Mountains, the natural surroundings in which he lives and which he considers home. These new works derive from his exploration of the natural world of northwest Arkansas as both naturalist and artist.

Steven Wise is a painter and a father of five children, with the younger three living at home. He lives in a duplex at the end of a cul-de-sac near soccer fields, bike trails, and a string of chicken-processing plants in Rogers, Arkansas. All the while painting and exhibiting work, Wise spends the bulk of his time teaching elementary art in the Rogers Public Schools and teaching drawing and painting at Northwest Arkansas Community College.

Underground Gallery

Now through Saturday, October 1

Allen Jarvis: Land, Water, and Sky
Landing Gallery

Now through Saturday, September 24

Many of the places that inspired these simple abstract landscapes of land, water, and sky are in Arkansas and Alabama, especially in the wetlands area of upper Mobile Bay. Artist Allen Jarvis uses objects like yardsticks, rulers, and brightly colored protractors—affixed to reclaimed wood—to build the playful bridges and manmade structures from memory, creating joyful paintings that remind him of the journeys that inspired them.

While you’re visiting downtown, experience the local vendors and restaurants in the River Market Entertainment District.

On the second Friday of each month, the Galleries & Bookstore at Library Square in CALS Roberts Library participate in 2nd Friday Art Night (2FAN). Galleries, museums, and businesses in downtown Little Rock are open from 5-8 p.m. for an after-hours gallery walk. This event is FREE and open to the public. For more information about all 2FAN activities, visit the 2nd Friday Art Night Facebook page.
