Razorback Victory Cartoons Donated to CALS
Little Rock businessman and former Razorback football player Muskie Harris has donated a collection of original drawings by cartoonists George Fisher and Vic Harville to the permanent art collection of the Central Arkansas Library System (CALS).
CALS Art Administrator Colin Thompson recounted, “I was approached by Muskie Harris at an event honoring George Fisher. He wondered if I would be interested in a donation [to CALS] of some George Fisher cartoons. It turns out that Mr. Harris, a well-known athlete, businessman, and philanthropist in Arkansas, had a unique collection of original pen-and-ink drawings by Harville and Fisher of Razorback victories. The drawings were used to decorate the Letterman’s Club walls in War Memorial Stadium.”

Harris rescued the drawings after they were thrown away during the renovation of the Letterman’s Club space at War Memorial.
Vic Harville was a sports and editorial cartoonist for the Texarkana Gazette and Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in Little Rock, receiving regional and national recognition.
George Edward Fisher was a political cartoonist for the West Memphis News, North Little Rock Times, Arkansas Gazette, and Arkansas Times. His work influenced and defined Arkansas politics. Read about Fisher on the CALS Encyclopedia of Arkansas here.

CALS appreciates Muskie Harris’s wonderful gift that salutes the athletic prowess of the Arkansas Razorback football team and the skill of Vic Harville and George Fisher as artists. Learn more about the art program at CALS.
