A Spotlight on Watercolors at the Galleries at Library Square at the CALS Roberts Library

Opening Friday, June 12, in the Galleries at Library Square, West Gallery, are the exhibitions Mid-Southern Watercolorists 50th Annual Juried Exhibition and the Founders of Mid-Southern Watercolorists: Celebrating 50 Years of Watercolor. At this time, due to CALS building closures in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, they are available for viewing by appointment only—email gallery@cals.org to make an appointment to enter the CALS Bobby L. Roberts Library of Arkansas History & Art to view the exhibitions.

Mid-Southern Watercolorists 50th Annual Juried Exhibition

This exhibition includes thirty-nine paintings, including the four pictured below, selected by juror Lynn Ferris of West Virginia. Mid-Southern Watercolorists is a non-profit organization incorporated in Little Rock, Arkansas, to enrich the stature of watermedia and encourage the recognition of its significance in our culture. This organization furthers the interest of painters and patrons by its programs and by its competitive and non-competitive exhibitions. It also provides opportunities for study by art students and others engaged in art making and in appreciation of arts.

Founders of Mid-Southern Watercolorists: Celebrating 50 Years of Watercolor

In the same gallery, an exhibit honors the five founders of the Mid-Southern Watercolorists: Doris Williamson Mapes, Bruce R. Anderson, Josephine Graham, Edwin C. Brewer, and Catherine Tharp Altvater.

Watercolors by Doris Williamson Mapes are for sale in the Galleries at Library Square retail gallery. All are unframed and in plastic coverings with a mat.

For purchase of these works or others from the retail gallery, our curators and staff can either arrange a curbside pickup for you or mail a shipment to an address of your choosing (shipping charges will apply). Most of our huge assortment of gifts and artworks can be shipped. Check out the Galleries on Instagram to see more items. Also, check out the CALS Roberts Library Facebook page for galleries news. To order or get suggestions for gifts from our retail or exhibition galleries, email Shannon Holmes (sholmes@cals.org) or Colin Thompson (colint@cals.org).
