The Art of Living – Textiles
Much of the art in the collection is on paper, but there are several interesting pieces created on fabric. In the camps’ beginning, access to materials of all sorts was limited but especially those categorized as unessential, such as art supplies. Rohwer art teacher, Jamie Vogel, being a determined and resourceful woman, ensured that her students had ways to express themselves through art. She visited a nearby denim factory and gathered scraps for her students to paint on and requested additional supplies from the administration. These textiles reflect her dedication to her students and show the creativity that arose in her students as a result.
