The Roberts Library research room and the Galleries at Library Square will be open on a limited basis Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00-11:00 a.m. and 1:00-5:00 p.m. The 9:00-11:00 a.m. time slot will be set aside exclusively for high-risk populations.

The exterior doors will remain locked. Patrons will be directed to go to the main entrance of the building at 401 President Clinton Avenue and contact the Gallery staff for admission by ringing the doorbell or by calling 320-5790. During these hours, both the galleries and the research room will take appointments and allow a very limited number of walk-up visitors.

More Details about CALS Roberts Reopening

While the CALS Roberts Library building is physically closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our researchers and librarians are available to serve you. Are you aware that we have an Ask-A-Librarian service? It is an important service all the time, but now more than ever!

CALL Monday through Saturday 9 am to 5 pm CDT or EMAIL us 24/7.

  • Do you have a question regarding your family history or about how to get started on your genealogy?
  • Are you just curious about something from Arkansas’s rich history?
  • Are you interested in locating a digitized photo we have online or want to know how to use the CALS Butler Center catalog?

Genealogy and Arkansas history are our specialties—but ask us a general reference question and we’ll try to answer that too. Librarians and archivists are brimming with curiosity and are always up for a challenge.

Phone calls will be answered from the Research Room, but please know that only one person will be working at a time due to an abundance of caution. So we may need to take down your request and get back to you in a few days. You can help us help you by providing as much information as possible so we get on the right path.

What are you waiting for? Ask away—we are ready and willing to take anything you want to throw at us! We are eager to get back into our workspace at the Roberts Library to see you all and do what we do best, but in the meantime, we’re here for you! To our wonderful patrons: we remind you to be safe, wash your hands, practice social distancing, and stay well until we see you again.

CALS Butler Center for Arkansas Studies staff members are glad to help you start your genealogy research as well as work with you to overcome genealogical road blocks and hurdles. The CALS staff is unable to conduct your research for you, but assistance in using sources and equipment is available in the Research Room on the 2nd floor of the CALS Bobby L. Roberts Library (open Monday through Friday from 10 am to 5 pm and Saturday from 12 pm to 4 pm).

If you need detailed help, consider enlisting the help of a professional genealogist. The Association of Professional Genealogists has a database of member genealogists who can assist you with a full family history profile.
