Color Your World! with Studio Scans

Summer @ CALS, the summer reading program at the Central Arkansas Library System, is in full swing, and this year’s theme, Color Our World!, celebrates making and enjoying art.

One of the ways we’re celebrating our colorful, art-filled world at the CALS Roberts Library is the Studio Scans program with the DIY Memory Lab.

Until the end of July, artists (amateur or professional or anywhere in between) can use the DIY Memory Lab to take high-resolution scans of their artwork—all for free!

We’ve had some incredible talent participate in our Studio Scans program, and some of the artists have generously allowed us to share the scans of their artwork. Take a look at some of the beautiful artwork that has graced the DIY Memory Lab so far from Isabella Wisinger and Hannah Keltner!

I am not an artist, but I was able to scan a watercolor painting from my late grandmother, Ramona McCollister, who passed away last year. It was an incredibly special way to preserve her work as an artist and carry a piece of her with me on my phone throughout my day.

To make a Studio Scans appointment at the Memory Lab, email memorylab@cals.org. Art-scanning appointments are every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday in July, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Time slots are 30-minutes each, and back-to-back appointments are allowed. For more information, go to https://robertslibrary.org/studioscans/

Information about other types of digitizing at the Memory Lab, such as photos or videos, can be found here. This is a free resource available to the public year-round.

There are many ways to celebrate our colorful world, and we hope you will visit us at the DIY Memory Lab to celebrate and preserve beautiful art and other materials.
