Joycelyn Elders: From Sharecropper’s Daughter to Surgeon General of the United States of America

Students will analyze various sources to gain a comprehensive understanding of the life and accomplishments of Joycelyn Elders. Students will research both primary and secondary sources, then compare and contrast the quality of information gained from these sources. Students will use the information for a predetermined task.

Arkansas Academic Standards are subject to revision every six years by the Arkansas Department of Education. The frameworks used in the majority of lesson plans on the Arkansas History Hub are from the 2006 Social Studies Frameworks and the 2007 Arkansas History Amendments and School Library Media Frameworks.
